The Benefits of Flaxseed - Superfoods Series

The doctor of the future will give no medication, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.
Thomas A Edison.

I only discovered the wonders of flaxseeds (also known as linseed) recently, but this food can certainly be classed as a superfood. This little seed can help to battle against disease; with initial studies showing that it can fight heart disease, diabetes and even cancer. The reasoning behind this is that flaxseeds are packed with vitamins and minerals that the body crave. So throw out those musty old vitamin capsules and see why organic flaxseeds can help your body perform wonders. These seeds contain:

Omega 3: Flaxseed is one of the best sources for Omega 3. These essential fatty acids aid the bodies recovery and
may help to maintain a healthy heart.

Dietary Fibre: Linseed is packed with fibre and has the added bonus of keeping everything running smoothly. It can help to maintain blood sugar levels and lower cholesterol.

Lignans: These are antioxidants which help to remove free radicals from the body. This make flaxseed a perfect detox food!

Iron: Essential for red blood cell construction and helps to transport oxygen to the muscles in your body.

Zinc: Great for assisting the body's immune system and helps in tissue and cell repair.
